DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
I have been looking into this family for a while. There was a Daniel Place who had the same birth year who served in the Lincoln Militia in Ontario and was discharged in 1812, right after the battle of Queenston Heights. Source: Alan Holden’s War of 1812 Personnel List. My ancestor Elijah Place (1806-1876) and possibly his brother Thomas served in the same regiment in 1828/29. Source: Men of Upper Canada, published by Ontario Genealogical Society. It is speculation in a few ways that that could be THIS Daniel, and that he could be the father of my Elijah, but I do have autosomal DNA connections to descendants of both of the brothers Griffin and William Simmons, as well as to two siblings of their mother Martha James/Jones, as well as another mystery match which seems to connect up to the Sweet family ( Martha’s mother), but I haven’t found the exact connection yet. Anyone know any more about this? How certain are we that this Daniel died back in Rhode Island at the age of 103?
