Ormond William "Orm" Pleasents MC was born in 10th November 1882 at Euroa, Victoria (Australia). He was the son of William Pleasents and Ada Watt.[1] He found employment as a bank accountant.
Ormond served in South Africa during the Second Boer War as a bugler with the 1st Victorian Mounted Rifles.[2]
In 1907, Ormond played one Australian Rules football match with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL).He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Force on 16th December 1914. Embarking on 3rd February 1915 aboard HMAT A13 Katuna with the second reinforcements for the 4th Light Horse Regiment he served at Gallipoli.[3] Ormond was promoted to Captain on 5th July 1916 and transferred to the 13th Light Horse Regiment.[4] The 13th was used in a more-traditional cavalry role on the Western Front and became known in November 1917 as the Australian Corps Cavalry Regiment. Ormond was awarded the Military Cross (MC) on 5th November 1918 for 'conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Angre ...'; gazetted in London 2nd April 1919 on page 4336 at position 18.[5] Ormond returned to Australia 1st July 1919.[6]
Ormond married Florence Butler in 1945 at Marylebone, Middlesex, England.[7]
He passed away, aged 59 years, on 30th September 1946 at Margate, Kent, England.[8]
