The 1st Battalion, Victorian Mounted Rifles was a mounted infantry unit of the Victorian Military Force and was commanded in South Africa in 1899 by Lieutenant Colonel Duncan McLeish. Many of the troopers transferred to the 2nd Australian Commonwealth Horse, under the command of McLeish for a second tour in the Second Boer War in 1902.
