We deeply regret to have to record the death of Mr John Poad occurred at his residence, Grey street, yesterday afternoon. Deceased had been in ill health for some considerable time and had been confined to his room for the last five weeks. His death was somewhat unexpected, as there had been signs of improvement during the past week. The late Mr Poad arrived in Palmerston some 27 years ago. After a few months he removed to Sandon, returning shortly afterwards to Palmerston. He has, therefore, been a resident of this town for considerably over twenty years, during the whole of which time he has been in business as a blacksmith. Deceased's first wife, the late Mrs Sarah Poad, died about two years ago, and in November last he married Mrs Elizabeth Brown, of Feilding, and he also, leaves a grown-up family to mourn their loss:—Mrs Gardiner, of Mangatoki; Mrs Meecham, of Aramoho; Mr A. Poad, of Palmerston, and Master Albert Poad. A large circle of friends and relatives will also regret to hear of his demise. [3]
