Biography

Birth

Ephraim Pond was baptized on 6 July 1656 in Dedham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America. He was the son of Daniel Pond and his wife Abigail Shepard.[1]

While Ephraim was baptized in Dedham, all subsequent records for him come from Wrentham -- 15 miles to the south west of Dedham. "In 1661 the southern portion of Dedham was set off into a separate township called Wrentham. Daniel Pond immediately became an owner of real estate there, obtaining a grant of Lot No, 15, as early as March 22d, 1662-3 ... He [Daniel] probably never lived at Wrentham, but his older sons took up the land and settled there."[2]

Marriage and children

Ephraim married Deborah Haws on 6 January 1685 in Wrentham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America.[3][4]

They had the following children, all recorded in Wrentham vital records:[5]

  1. Ephraim, b 21 Oct 1686
  2. Daniel b 22 Sep 1689
  3. Deborah b 13 Sep 1693, m. Daniel Thurston
  4. Samuel, b 29 Dec 1695
  5. Joseph b 30 Dec 1697
  6. Benjamin (twin) b 22 Jul 1700
  7. Joseph (twin) b 22 July 1700
  8. Jacob b 22 Nov 1702
  9. Eleony/Eliony (dau), b 15 Aug 1704

Occupation and role in Wrentham

Like his father, he was styled "carpenter," and his name appears early on the Wrentham records, where he resided, an owner of real estate, in 1689. He served on Town Committees in 1694.[6]

Death

Ephraim died 22 December 1704 in Wrentham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.[7]

Ephraim died intestate, and his widow was appointed in 1710 to administer. The inventory of the estate showed a valuation of £318. In 1714 it was divided between the widow, and children Ephraim, Daniel, Eleony, Samuel, Deborah and Jacob.[8] See also Suffolk County, Massachusetts, Probate Record Book 6: 341 and 17: 89, Ephraim Pond.

On 13 November 1737 the widow's portion was divided between Ephraim, Samuel, Jacob, Daniel Thurston, and Eleony the daughter of Eleony Shepard.[9]
