Biography

William P. Pool was born in 1792 in South Carolina.^[1]

In 1840,^[2] Wm P Pool was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama with the following persons in his household (age range in years): a) males - 1 (15 - 20, probably Ervin P. Pool), 1 (40 - 50, himself); b) females - 1 (10 - 15, probably Elizabeth Hannah Pool), 1 (15 - 20, Elizabeth P. Pool), 1 (40 - 50, probably Mary (Taylor) Pool).

In 1850,^[3] William Poole was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household with 3 people (including himself) (age range in years): a) males - 1 (>45) [probably William Pool]; b) females - 1 (<21) [??], 1 (>21) [probably Mary Pool].

On 29 Aug 1860,^[1] Wm P Pool (age 68, born South Carolina) was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in the household of his son-in-law, John Moore (age 37, born Alabama), with his daughter, Elizabeth (Pool) Moore (age 38, born South Carolina), and John & Elizabeth's Moore children, all born in Alabama (age, sex): i) Mary J. (16, F), ii) Luiza P. (14, F), iii) James S. (11, M), iv) Nancy M. (9, F), v) Clarence I. (7, F), vi) Hariette (3, F), vii) John L. (0, M). Also in the household was Jane Moore (age 75, born North Carolina), who was probably a relative (?mother?) of John Moore. John Moore's occupation was a farmer, and he owned real estate valued at $1,200 and had personal estate valued at $1,940.

Research Notes

The father - daughter relationship between William P. Pool and Elizabeth (Pool) Moore was confirmed by Elizabeth's death record in 1916 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.^[4] The death record lists her father as "Wm. P. Poole", born in South Carolina, and her mother as "Poole", born in South Carolina. Elizabeth was born in 1823 in South Carolina.

In 1860,^[5] "Wm. P. Pool" provided information on his farm in the Western Division of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama - Northport post office. The question is whether this was for Wilson P. Pool, William's son, or for Wilson's father, William P. Pool. In the 1860 federal census for Tuscaloosa,^[1] "Wm. P. Pool" appears to actually be Wilson P. Pool (based on age and family members) rather than William P. Pool (Wilson's father). Hence, it's unclear whose farm data was being reported.
