Lafayette enlisted in Co. D 45th VA Inf. Regt. 29 May 1861. He was struck by a shell fragment at the Battle of Piedmont and became disabled in the arm. After being captured at this battle 5 June 1864, he was transferred to Camp Morton in Indiana. Lafayette was exchanged on 4 March 1865. Source: Confederate Pension Record of Lafayette Pope.[1]

Fayette Pope, age 60, applied for a Confederate Pension of $15 annually because of total disability on 1 May 1900. Fayette made his mark. His pension was approved 18 May 1900.[2]
The grave is now unmarked, but may have been marked with a fieldstone initially.
