Rodella Montague Pope was born in 1874 in Missouri, the daughter of Henry Orson and Elizabeth S. (Montague) Pope. Rodella married Lincoln M. Stearns on 7 December 1893.theybhad six children, two of whom died young. Rodella died 6 August 1948 in Los Angeles County, California. [1] [2]
In 1910, Rodella and Lincoln lived at 410 W. 5th, Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York. The household included Lincoln, 38, born in NY, as were his parents, an Assistant Secretary in a factory, who owned their house with a mortgage, and who had been married for 16 years; his wife, Rodella M., 36, born in Missouri, as was her mother, and whose father was born in New York. Rodella had had six children, four of whom were living; and their four children: Melvin C., 13, born in Missouri, in school; H. Pope, 10, born in Missouri, in school; John P., 2, born in New York; and Jane M., four months, born in New York. The parents and the two older children could read and write. [3]
In 1930, Rodella, 56, a widow, lived at 325 Grand Avenue, Long Beach, California. She lived with her widowed father in law, Melvin H. Stearns, who owned the house valued at $7500. They also had a radio. Rodella was married at age 19. She and Melvin could both read and write. [4]
Rodella’s father in law passed away in 1931.
In 1940, Rodella was again living in Jamestown, New York, and had been for at least five years.she was 66, and a widow. [5]
Rodella died on 6 August 1948, aged 74 in Los Angeles, California. She is buried with her husband Lincoln in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. [6]
