Research Notes

Mary is not the Mary Porter who was the daughter of John Porter and his wife Sarah. christened on 11 Apr 1805 in Ulpha, Cumberland, England.^[7], since that Mary died in 1818 at the age of 12 and was buried in St John, Ulpha on 29 Mar 1818^[8]

Since she was married in Carlisle, she was most likely the Mary Porter christened in Carlisle on 5 Aug 1807 with parents Joseph Porter and Sarah^[9], although other possibilities also exist.
