Eveline Clarke took photos of the Middleton on the Hill parish and wrote the following description:
"This [church] is again by the manor house and is built up on a little mound. You have to go through a field of cabbages to reach it. There are no other houses nearby, just the manor house and the houses serving it. The church is quite old (as you will see from the details I will be scanning in a moment and sending in a separate e.mail) and has a saxon doorway to the one side which has been bricked up. You will see from Middleton 3 that there is quite a bit of damage to the main roof and porch roof. This is because of the hurricane force winds in the area the previous week [2007]....Middleton on the Hill is more like a hamlet, very few houses, even today. No real village, just the manor house and farms around. No pub; no main street; nothing. Middleton has hardly changed. Middleton, Brimfield and Leysters are all three churches very close to each other, so teh ancestors would not have traveled very far to find their wives and husbands"
