Biography

The daughter of Alanson Potter and Nancy (Johnson) Potter, Cordelia Potter was born in Milo Township, New York^{[citation needed]} in 1832, where father worked as a shoemaker.^[1][2]

Cordelia Potter married William Smalley, marrying in 1855 and most likely adopting a daughter, Lura (McProuty) Kelsey, who was born under the name of McProuty, the presumed daughter of Levi McProuty and Jane Edsall. Cordelia and her made their home in Seneca Falls, New York, where William Smalley worked as a machinist,^[3] eventually selling land deeded to her in Yates County.^[4][5][6] Land in Seneca County was put into her name.^[7][8] By 1880, the Smalleys moved west to Michigan, settling in Bay City.^[9][10][11]

Cordelia Smalley passed away in Bay City, Michigan^{[citation needed]} at the age of 76 and is buried at Elm Lawn Cemetery there.^[12]
