Biography

Jane Aljaline Powell-Chastain was born between 1825-1830 in Georgia. In 1832, her father, Abraham Powell, received land in the Cherokee land lottery at Chastain's, Habersham County, Georgia. Some believe this is the area where Aljaline was born. She was the daughter Abraham W. Powell (Hopper) and Nancy (Mulkey) Powell.^[1] She married James W. 'Jim' Chastain on 2 Apr 1846 in Gilmer County, Georgia.^[2] Her brother Daniel Powell married James' sister Mary Chastain on 3 Apr 1846 in Gilmer County, Georgia.^[3]

Jane Aljaline Powell-Chastain died about 1880 in Cullman County, Alabama. She reportedly is buried at Powell's Chapel, although it has not been confirmed.
