Francis Poyntz of the "Benefield Branch"[1] of the Poyntz family, was the son [2] , [3] of Captain Newdigate Poyntz and Sarah (Foxley) Poyntz. He was baptized on 16 January 1632/3 at Benefield, Northamptonshire,[1] and was buried on 22 September 1684 at St. Andrew's Holborn, London.[4]
Francis Poyntz married Catherine Bates at St. Bartholomew the Less, London, on 21 September 1658.[1]
He was a Citizen and Worshipful Upholder of the City of London and upholsterer to the King. He left a will dated 8 September 1684 which was probated on 18 February 1684/5. His wife Catherine preceded him in death in 1680 and only four children are named in his will, Francis, Thomas, Catherine, and Jane, implying they were the only living children at the date of the will. He made his brother William and friend Dr. Thomas Francklyn trustees on behalf of his four children to whom he bequeathed his dwelling house in Hatton Garden, and his Garden, House, and Bowling Green in St. James, Clerkenwell, and "my place in His Majesty's Wardrobe, which I hold during the life of Mr. Edward Rymill and proceeds thereof".[5]
Francis and Catherine had nine children, 4 sons, and 5 daughters:
