Biography

Catharine Prendergast was probably born about 1794^[1] in Mayville, New York, the home of her parents, the place of her wedding to William H. Merritt^[2] and the birthplace of her youngest son, Thomas Rodman Merritt.^[3]

At the time of the 1861 Census of Canada East, Canada West, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Wm. H, Catharine, J.P, Janette, Hamilton, Emily, and Catharine Merritt were listed as living in St. Catharines, Canada West^[4].

She died in 1862 and was buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines, Ontario.^[5]
