Biography

Daughter of Carl and Dorothy Pries born in Rosenhagen, Germany April 8, 1854.

She was baptized in the Lutheran creed and came to the United States at two weeks of age when her parents immigrated to this country. As they had to make the voyage in a sailboat it took them thirteen long weeks to cross the ocean. At first they settled in Donalds Grove, Illinois, and after 12 years moved to Bremer county, Iowa, where they remained in Crane Creek for one year and where she was confirmed by the Rev. Behrens. Her parents bought a farm in Bremer, Iowa where they remained the of their lives.

On the 4th day of April, 1875, she married Christopher Mueller of Waverly, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children. Three sons, William, John, and Joe; and three daughters, Mrs. Frances (August) Koebrich, Mrs. Lois (Herman) Niemann, and Edith. The young couple made their home in Charles City, Iowa where they resided for 20 years. In November of 1898 they moved to Sumner, Iowa where they remained.

Mrs. Mueller was diagnosed with an intestinal tumor in November 1918 which developed into dropsy. Her health diminished rapidly. On the evening of Friday, February 14, 1919 she received her last communion and passed away at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 17th at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 11 days.

Survivors includ her husband Christ Mueller; one son, Joe; also three daughters, Frances, wife of Mr. August Koebrich; Lois, wife of Mr. Herman Niemaun, and Edith. Seven grandchildren. Furthermore, three brothers, Carl Louis and John Pries, and four sisters, Dora, wife of the late Wm. Ehlert; Fredericke, wife of Henry Mantle; Emma, wife of Carl Tretow; and Hulda wife of Aug. Thymann. She was preceded in death by two sons William and John.
