Mr. Donald Milton Pruett, 79, of Casar, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Born on Sept. 16, 1931, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Amos Andy Pruett and Mary Elizabeth Long Pruett.

Mr. Pruett is a former employee of Hudson Hosiery and Fiber. He was a retired self-employed poultry and cattle farmer and a former director with Carolina Farm Credit. Mr. Pruett was a active member of Casar United Methodist Church and a former member of Casar Baptist Church.

Mr. Pruett served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in the 25th Division Infantry of the 27th Regiment and was presented a Purple Heart.

Mr. Pruett is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann Downs Pruett; son and daughter-in-law, David and Ellen Pruett of Casar; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Joe Cline of Morganton; brother, Harold Pruett of Polkville; sisters, Aileen McNeely of Morganton and Mildred Price of Petersburg, Va.; brother-in-law, Bobby Downs and his wife, Polly, of Casar; grandchildren, Paige Downs, Doug Pruett and his wife, Tiffany, Leah Cline and Anna Cline; and one great-grandson, Bryson Downs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Pruett; sister, Corene Propst; and grandson, Donnie Pruett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Casar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Lovelace officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.
