Biography

John Marion Puckett, a man whose life unfolded in the heart of Arkansas, was born in May 1856 to Harrison Puckett and Nancy Munday. His journey through time is a testament to hard work, determination, and the ability to weather life's challenges.

As a young child in 1860, John lived in Franklin Township, Saline County, Arkansas, close to the Cherry Grove post office. It was in this rural setting that his foundations were laid, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the promise of growth.

By 1870, John found himself in Calvert Township, Grant County, Arkansas, in the vicinity of the Tulip post office. His path led him to work as a farm laborer, a role that instilled in him the values of diligence and dedication.

The census of 1880 reveal John residing in Merry Green Township, Grant County, Arkansas. The challenges of the times did not deter him, as he embraced a life as a laborer, showcasing his willingness to contribute meaningfully to his community.

As the 20th century dawned, John's resilience continued to shine. In 1900, he called Redfield Township, Jefferson County, Arkansas, home. He earned his livelihood as a wood chopper, harnessing the strength of his hands and the power of his will to provide for himself and his family.

The year 1902 marked a new chapter in John's life, as he exchanged vows with Ora "Orie" Alice Shephard on October 24th in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Their union was a testament to his commitment to love and companionship in the face of life's uncertainties.

As the years marched on, John's determination remained unwavering. The 1910 census found him in Merry Green Township, Grant County, Arkansas, now working as a day laborer at the local sawmill. The hum of the machinery echoed his own strong work ethic, a trait that defined him throughout his life.

With the turn of another decade, John's journey took him to Calvert Township, Grant County, Arkansas, in 1920. Here, he faced the challenges of life as a widower, having lost his beloved Ora. In his solitude, he found solace boarding with the Cambell family, adapting to the circumstances life presented.

John Marion Puckett's life is a reflection of a man who embraced the ebb and flow of time, who carved his path through the wilderness of challenges, and who found strength in the simplicity of hard work and perseverance. His legacy lives on as a reminder that resilience can be a guiding light, illuminating the darkest corners of life's journey.

Researcher Notes

  1. John must have a previous marriage, but I can find no record. It must have occurred after 1880, and she must have died before 1900. In 1880, he is single, and in the 1900 census he indicates he is married and has a son William, age 12, but his wife is not residing in the home. Jimmy Honey

Puckett-3492 and Puckett-2901 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles are the same person. I didn't see the John until I started adding his father. Can we merge the two profiles.
