Biography

Rosamond Pugh was born in 1738. She was the daughter of Willoughby Pugh and Martha Landrum. She was called "Rosey" by family members.

Marriage

Arthur Slayton, b. 8 Aug. 1732; married Rosamond Pugh. [1]

In her husband Arthur Slayden's Last Will and Testament, which was written 17 March 1803 in Wilkes County, Georgia, she was referred to as "my beloved wife Rosamond".[2]

Death

Rosey passed away in 1808. [citation needed]

Here is Dower release by ROSEY SLAYDEN, wife of Arthur. Film #30784, ANDERSON from SLAYDYEN Commonwealth of VA, Richard Worsham, William Lansion, Jacob Early, gentlemen justices of the County of Wilks in the state of Georgia, greeting: Whereas Artur Slaydyen of the Co of Charlotte and state of VA, by certain deed of sale bearing date 6th day of November 1792, hath conveyed unto Charles Anderson, the estate of 200 acres of land, with appurtinences, and whereas ROSEY SLAYDEN, the wife of the said Arther, cannot conveniently travel to our said County Court of Charlotte to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance, we give unto you or any two of you power to receive the relinquishment that the said ROSEY shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance. Command you or any two of you that you do personally go the said ROSEY and examine her privitly and apart for them said Arthur, her husband, whether she doth the same freely and voluntarely without his persuation or threats, and she is willing that the same should be recorded in the County Court of Charlotte and when you have received her relinquishment and examined her as aforesaid that you certify us thereof in our said Court under your hands and seals seding (?) them the said Deed and this writ. Witnes Thomas Read, Clerk, 4 January 1794. State of Georgia wilks County, Agreably to the rules and customs of the County aforesaid personally appeared before us R. Worsham and William Lansom, Justices of the peace for the said County, ROSEY SLATON wife of the within named Arthur Slaton being apart from her husband says that she does of her own free will and accord relinquish forever her right of dower to the within land and premises agreeable to a commission from under the hand of Thomas Read, Esq, Clerk of the County of Charlotte given under our hands and seals this 11th day of February 1794, signed R. Worsham, JP. & W. Lansom (Sansom), JP. State of Georgia, Wilks County, set my hand and affixed the seal of the county aforesaid, this 10th day of April, 1794, Henry Mounger, CCW.
