Lawrence William Pumroy was born 7 Dec 1910 in Porter Indiana. The 1920 U.S. Census shows 9-year old Lawrence Pumroy living in Pleasant, Porter Co., Indiana, with his parents, George L. Pumroy and Mary E. Pumroy, and his brothers Neal (7 yrs), Howard (5 yrs), and Edward (3 yrs). His father worked as a telegraph operator for the Steam Railroad.
Lawrence Pumroy married Dorotha Irene Mcintire on 2 Feb 1929. [1] She was the daughter of Wilbur McIntire and Sarah Miller. They had three sons: Jack, James, and Robert. Robert died as an infant.
Lawrence and Dorotha divorced, and Lawrence married Dorothy Bell Salrin on 8 Sept 1936 in Indiana. She was the daughter of Joseph Nicholas Salrin and Bertha Edna Pettet. In the 1940 U.S. Census at age 28, he was living in East Chicago, Indiana, with his second wife, Dorothy, age 23, and his two sons, Jack, age 11 and James, age 7. Jack and James were from his first marriage to Dorotha Irene Mcintire. Lawrence and his second wife, Dorothy, had four children: Larry (Joe), Barry, Penny, and Gary.
Because Lawrence Pumroy’s first and second wife’s first names are so similar (Dorotha and Dorothy), and because his children with his first wife (Jack and James) were living with Lawrence and his second wife (Dorothy) in the 1940 U.S. Federal Census, some people have thought that his second wife in the 1940 census was his first wife; however, they noticed the different birth dates.
On 12 Jun 1971 in Kingsford Heights, Union Township, LaPorte, Indiana, Lawrence married Lillian Frances (Judd) Dunn. Lillian F. Judd was born 26 Jan 1929 in Cleves, Ohio, United States. Her first marriage was to Ernest F Dunn, from which two sons, Ernest F. Dunn and Timothy Dunn and a daughter, Charlotte Dunn Krout, were born.
Lawrence passed away on 31 Oct 1987, in Kouts, Porter County, Indiana. Living children included: Jack (Carol) Pumroy, James (Lois) Pumroy, Larry (Mary Lou) Pumroy of Monticello, and Barry (Cheryl) Pumroy of LaPorte; and a daughter, Penny Derucki of Rolling Prairie.
