Biography

Not much is known about Richard Quirk's background. He was likely born around 1775 in Isle of Man.

He married Jane (Gell) Skinner, a widow, on 1 September 1805 in Patrick, Isle of Man. [1][2] Jane Gell was widow of Radcliffe Skinner, with whom she had a son, Henry Skinner, christened on 23 Jun 1799 in Patrick, Isle of Man. [3] Radcliffe himself was a widower when they married on 25 Jul 1796. [4][5]

They had at least 2 children, John [6][7] and Catharine. [8][9]

His wife died in 1837, but it is not known whether Richard was still alive at the time; no death records have been located.

There is a Richard Quirk (70, Farmer) on the 1841 Census living in Raby Moor, Patrick, Isle of Man, along with Jane Quirk (70), Richard Quirk (35, Farmer), Margaret Quirk (25), Richard Quirk (6), Eliza Quirk (3) and a number of servants. [10] The younger Richard Quirk would be the son of Richard Quirk and Jane Stephens, who was christened on 27 January 1805. [11]
