Malaysian comedian & actor.
Hamid Gurkah was born Abdul Hamid Abdul Rahman, 22 Aug 1931, at Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, British Malaya (now Malaysia )
Hamid served in the military from 1950-1957.
He married Timah Abdul Hamid (born c.1942) in April 1957, they had eight children.
In 1965, Hamid participated in the RTM Radio Star Competition, winning first place. he was then offered an opportunity to perform on stage by the Ministry of Culture and the Arts. Shortly thereafter, comedian Datuk Jamali Shadat invited him to join as a stage comic. In the 1970s, Hamid and Jamali produced several albums featuring comedy sketches songs.
Hamid appeared in the films Gila-Gila (1979), Punya Gila (1982) [for which he won the 1982 Best Comedy Artist trophy at the third annual Malaysian Film Festival (FFM)], Aku Yang Berhormat (1983), Divorce Film (1984), Ragam Pemandu (1986), Main-main Hantu (1990), Constabel Mamat (1992), Impian (1996), Silat Legenda (1998), Scenario, The Movie (1999), Drought Cinta (2005), Wrong Bapak (2006), Zombi Kampung Pisang (2007) and Alamak Toyol (2011).
In 2014, he received a special award for his contribution to the world of domestic comedy at the 2nd Color Comedy Awards.
Hamid died from tuberculosis and COVID-19, 14 Jun 2022, at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), in Klang, Malaysia.
