See notes in comments field of James Ross (abt.1786-abt.1836) which might affect this profile
There are two sons named James Ross attached to this profile and people are mixing and matching wrong data between them. The James Ross and Elizabeth Ross mistakenly added to William Ross and Nancy Dunn both married Winships and resided in New York and then Noblesville, Franklin, Indiana, USA. Elizabeth Ross married James' wife's brother Joseph and later is found in Lawrence Co., Illinois, USA by 1840. This further confuses the issue since Nancy Dunn and William Ross also end up there. It may be that there is a New Jersey family connection to these families. However, it is not plausible that this is James Ross is the son of William Riley Ross and Nancy Dunn as so often assumed. Nancy Dunn would've been 8 years old at the time of his birth and 12 at the birth of Elizabeth his sister. It could be that William had another wife before her but he himself would've been 17 when this James Ross was born, not unheard of but less likely than a misattribution. I'm working on a proof for the actual parents of James Ross, but this connection to William Riley Ross and Nancy Dunn is improbable in too many ways and is absolutely unsupported by any evidence.
