Elijah was born on 26 Apr 1835 at Weston Colville, Cambridgeshire, U.K.

In 1841 Elijah was living at Weston Colville, Cambridgeshire, U.K. with his parents and 3 of his siblings. The family name is listed as Rawlins and his brother David's age is incorrectly listed as 3, all other family details are correct. ^[1]

Elijah arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on board the "Gilmore" on 19 Oct 1855 with his brother David Mark Rawlinson.
