Research Notes

Some research says that Samuel Ray served in the Revolutionary War, he may have been captured and then released shortly before his death, no sources have been found to prove this.

In 1778 all persons holding any office of profit or trust, attorneys at law, and voters were required to take the oath of fidelity, if they did not sign they would be made to pay triple taxes, and would not be able to file lawsuits, hold any political office, vote, serve in the military, practice law, medicine, preach, be a tradesman, or teach at a school. Samuel would have been 24 in 1777, when the law was passed, and is the only one of his brothers that I have not seen a record of signing, meaning he was likely in the military or had passed away.
