Biography

Edward was born about 1781, records stating born in Maryland and North Carolina have been discovered. The 1850 Shelby Co, IL census indicated both Edward and his wife, Sarah Martin were born in NC. He was the son of John Reed.

He was listed in the 1805 Warren Co, TN Early Tax List Records. On 21 Aug 1807 Warren Co, TN Land Grand Certificate #8, he was granted 50 acres near Collins River and his father's land grant. On 28 Jul 1815 Warren Co, TN he was granted 50 acres in the Third District on waters of Collins River on East border of John Reed.

On 9 Dec 1822 Warren Co, TN Deed Book D p 361; Edward purchased interest in 3 tracts of land of John Reed, from his nephew and son of Nancy Reed (deceased), John Henry Pitts.

In 1830 Shelby County, IL Precinct 5, he was listed next to his son Moses Reed. 1830; Census Place: Precinct 5, Shelby, Illinois; Series: M19; Roll: 23; Page: 145; Family History Library Film: 0007648

In 1860 Shelby Co, IL census he was 79, living in the home of his son, Allen, and indicated he was born in Maryland. Year: 1860; Census Place: Shelby, Shelby, Illinois; Roll: M653_228; Page: 560; Family History Library Film: 803228
