DEATH OF MR. JOHN REID.
This morning Mr. John Reid, of Paskeville, Yorke's Peninsula, died on Thursday morning after a long illness. He was one of the original members of the Yorke's Peninsula Land Board; receiving his appointment on July 24, 1889, which he held up to his death. Originally the board consisted of five members, but there are only three now. He had a thorough knowledge of Yorke's Peninsula. On Monday Mr. E. Krichauff, chairman of the board, met Mr. Reid at his residence, when they decided upon matters connected with the Land Board. He was then very ill. He had a large circle of friends, and was much respected.
Kadina, August 6.
The death of Mr. John Reid, of Paskeville, occurred to-day after an illness of some months' duration. The deceased could hardly be spared from this district, being versed in everything politically and socially, and his advice was ever sought for. His residence in this locality extended from 1866, when he engaged in farming pursuits with stockbreeding on an extensive scale. In 1881 he was appointed a Commissioner of the Yorke's Peninsula Road Board, and held office until it was abolished. In 1889 he was appointed a member of the Yorke's Peninsula Land Board. All these offices he filled with satisfaction to the Government and the public. The deceased was also a justice of the peace for many years. The District Council of Green's Plains and surrounding districts owes a great deal to the deceased's memory for the many tokens of advice and administrating assistance given them, being chairman for a succession of years to the former council. The deceased is a loss to the Peninsula as a whole, and the Government has lost a good worker. The funeral takes place to-morrow at Paskeville.
