Biography

It is believed by some researchers that Enoch Renfroe was the son of John Renfore/Rentfro, and his 2nd wife, Mary Elizabeth Perkins Hollingsworth. Others believe that he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Hollingsworth and her first husband, a Quaker named Joseph Hollingsworth. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no solid evidence for either scenario.

John Rentfro's will was filed in Edgecombe Co, NC in 1748. The will lists, sons; George, Enoch & Jacob Ranfrow; wife, Tomasin, and "her two sons", William Ranfrow and James Ranfrow. (NC Wills, 1663-1789, vol. XXVI:27, State Archives, Raleigh, NC) . Wife, Tomsen Ranfrow and Matthew McKinney Executors.

Enoch Renfro enlisted and served as a private n the 3rd Regiment of GA militia, Captain Edmond Hopson's Company, commanded by Col. Ignatius, A. Few during the War of 1812. According to his service papers he entered the service on September 24, 1814 for a period of 6 months at and was paid $8 per month. . He spent 13 days traveling from his residence in Washington County to the "rendezvous: at Waynesboro and from Camp Covington, where he was discharged to his residence,. Expiration of service occurred on March 2, 1815.
