Biography

Mary was born in 1814 in Halifax County, Nova Scotia (probably Herring Cove), the only known child of John Reyno and Susan Pearson. Her father died in 1818 when she was only a few years old; her mother Susan remarried to Edward Hayes of Herring Cove.

On January 10th 1828 (at the age of 13) Mary was baptised into the Catholic faith.[1]

On May 2nd 1836, Mary, a spinster living in Halifax, sold fishing lots #8 and #9 in Herring Cove to Lawrence Johnson for 40 pounds.[2] The deed notes that Mary was the only surviving child of the late John Rino of Herring Cove, and that the lots had been purchased by John Rino from Ann Mahony in 1814.

She married Anthony Murphy, a native of Kilkenny Ireland, on June 7th 1836 in Halifax.[3]

Anthony and Mary had two known children together in Halifax:

  1. Mary Ann, b. 1837[4]
  2. Anthony, b. 1838 [5]
