Biography

Flag of Yorkshire (adopted 2008)
Mary (Rhodes) Smith was born in Keighley, Yorkshire, England.

Mary was born in Keighley, Yorkshire, England, in 1814. Her parents were Thomas Rhodes, and Susannah Stowell. She was one of at least nine children. She was baptized on May 25, 1814, in Keighley, at Saint Andrew. It appears Mary remained with her family until her marriage in 1843.

Mary married John Smith on November 25, 1843, in Keighley, at Saint Andrew. The witnesses were Robert Whipp, and Elizabeth Stowell. Mary and John would continue living in the Keighley area. They are enumerated in the England census from 1851 through 1881 residing in the sub-registration district of Bingley. John was a Boot and Shoemaker. The couple would have four children between 1844 and 1852. No definitive record of Mary's death has been found, to date.
