Lemuel Rich was born, 10 Jul 1780, in that part of Machias later set off as East Machias, the son of Samuel Rich and Sarah Bracy, d Hope, ME, 27 Dec 1864, ae 84y 6m, and buried Hope Grove Cemetery; married, intentions at Islesboro, 16 Feb 1810, Grace Gilkey, b c1790, daughter of John and Sylvina (Thompson) Gilkey, d at Hope, 6 Jul 1871, ae 80y 7m, and bur with her husband. Lemuel was a Baptist minister. He served churches in Islesborough, Union and Hope, and performed missionary work along the Maine coast and in New Brunswick, where he was imprisoned at one time for his work. [1]
