Thomas was born in 1845, the son of Roger Richards and Amelia Simons. He married Jane Morris and had two sons and four daughters who survived to adulthood. They lived and reared their children on the same farm Roger Richards purchased when he arrived in America. They constructed a second log cabin and all of their children were born in it. Eventually a sandstone farmhouse was built on Bryn Road near the farm buildings. Although their native language Welsh was used in the household, he mastered reading and writing English and reported in census records that he had achieved a fourth grade education. Not permitted to have a good education in his life, it was his ambition that his sons and daughters receive one, which they did. Thomas Richards was a Director of the School Board for six years. He also served the Delafield Township as Treasurer of the Town Board for one term and Road Commissioner for several terms. He passed away in 1915 and was buried in the Richards gravesite at Tabernacle Cemetery, Wales, Wisconsin visited by David Richards.
