George Edward Richards was born on 28th July 1922 in Boonah, Queensland, Australia. He was the fourth son of William Richards MC, a decorated First World War veteran, and Clementina Hern.
On 5th January 1942 George enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force for military service overseas during the Second World War, then becoming ominously close to Australia with Pearl Harbor bombed and Malaya / Singapore being overrun by the Japanese forces. Having been posted to the 5th Independent Company Reinforcements Depot, he was discharged on 6th April 1944. [1] George's older brothers all served also, and returned safely home.
George married Joan Durre on 25th March 1944 in Queensland. [2]
He passed away, aged 60 years, on 20th March 1983 in Rockhampton, Queensland. [3]
