Biography

John Richardson was born 28 Jul 1791.[citation needed].

According to his death certificate, John Richardson was born in Rio Grande to John and Lydia Richardson.[1] This contradicts a tradition he was the son of Jeremiah Richardson and Susanna Church. John named his oldest child Susan (we don't know her middle name), and her granddaughter (John's great-granddaughter) was named Susan Church Isard. A look at the names in the line between them seems to support the relationship. John Richardson was father of Susan Richardson who was mother of John R[ichardson?] Isard who was father of Susan Church Isard.

John Richardson applied for a Seamen's Certificate for the Port of Philadelphia on 4 Nov 1819 at the age of 28.[2]

He married Eleanor Swain on 2 Oct 1816. Eleanor died in 1846.

Death and Legacy

John Richardson, waterman, widower, died 14 October 1859 at sea, cause of death unknown.[3]

John Richardson was recorded in the census mortality schedule as (incorrectly) married and a "waterman" when he died of a sudden "palsy" on 15 October 1859 at the age of 68.[4]

He is buried in Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.[5]
