George Redsecker, who was born in Germany, was lieutenant in the Lancaster county militia at Brandywine and Germantown in Col. Alexander Lowry's regiment, which was commended for bravery in these battles.
The Redsecker family, of which Elizabeth Ann (Redsecker) Young was a descendant, was founded in this country by John George Ricksecker, born in Switerland, May 22, 1735, from whence he emigrated in September, 1749, aged fourteen years. He served in the revolutionary war, having been first lieutenant of a company of foot in the third battalion of militia of Lancaster county, in 1777. He died in or near Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, March 11, 1788. His son George Ricksecker, whose name was changed afterward by an Irish schoolmaster named Tara Jones, to Redsecker, was born in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvnaia, June 23, 1764. He married Susanna Ream. His death occurred May 19, 1838. His son, Isaac Redsecker, born December 12, 1794, died July 29, 1853, aged fifty-eight. Isaac Redsecker was married to Catharine Oldwiler, born April 20, 1800, died April 23, 1891, aged eighty-five years. They lived at Elizabethtown, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, and were the parents of three children: Elizabeth Ann, aforementioned as the wife of James Young, Catherine, widow of Solomon Detwiler, Susannah, married Samuel Davis, died May 6, 1891, buried at Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

George Redsecker, Jr. (1764-1838), was a private in Capt. Abraham Scott's company, 7th battalion, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania militia. He was born in Pennsylvania; died in Lancaster County, Pa.
The paternal grandparents of George Redsecker were George and Susan (Reem) Redsecker, both natives of Lancaster, residents of Elizabethtown, where the grandfather died in 1834, at the age of sixty-five years, and his widow in 1841, at the age of eighty-eight. They were buried in Mt. Tunnel cemetery. Their children were: (1) George; (2) Barbara, the wife of Robert Ross; (3) Susan, the wife of George Peters; (4) Elizabeth, the wife of Philip Fisher; (5) Mary, the wife of Abraham Breneman; (6) Abraham--all being dead. George Redsecker, the great-grandfather of the gentleman whose career forms the theme of this article, was buried with his wife in Mt. Tunnel cemetery, their ashes having been removed from the burying ground of the old Reformed Church on the Ridge in West Donegal township.
The maternal grandparents of Mr. Redsecker were Alexander and Elizabeth Moyer, of Lancaster county.
