Excerpt from Henry Miller Family and Descendants, Page 11-12
The second wife of Henry Miller also lived in Greenbrier county. She was married to him in 1816. She was the mother of four children, all girls. They were: Delilah, Rachel, Rhoda and Ellen. The last two named claim Ohio as their birthplace; while the evidence points to the Greenbrier area as the place where the first two were born.
The Rife family is of Germanic origin and can found found with various spellings. This family was early in the Greenbrier country. The name appears on the earliest tax records for the county. The exact line of descent from old Jacob, Sr., the pioneer, to Barbara Rife is not known, although it would seem to this writer to be that of a grandfather.
The first mention of her name is in March of 1813 when she was present where an agreement was entered into between Henry Miller and Henry Stuart. Evidently she lived neighbors to them and was convenient to witness the transaction. This was three years prior to the time of her marriage.
After her marriage the family continued for some years in the Muddy Creek mountain area. About 1827 the Miller family moved to Ohio. It seems that first they went to Lawrence county, (they had a daughter, Delphi or Delphena Nelson living there already), and then moved to Gallia county, and finally back to Symmes township in Lawrence.
In the 1860 census Barbara Rife Miller is found living with her daughter Delilah, who was married to Alexander McDaniel. The family in this census was living in Decatur township.
Since Barbara is not found in the 1870 census it is presumed that she was dead. The date of her death is not known. The place of her burial, which was beside her husband, is however, known. Two different people who knew of the location of the graves, took pains to see that it was identified, and presently a stone marker has been placed for descendants and interested persons to know where Barbara's remains are buried. This is in the Yates cemetery in Symmes township on Buffalo creek, or rather on a hill overlooking that creek.
