Francesca Riina is born 20 October 1866 in her parents' home in via San Giovan Battista, Corleone. Her birth is reported by her father, Giovanni Riina, age 38 (b. 1828), villico. Her mother is Biagia Ligotino, age 28 (b. 1838). Francesca is baptized the next day, named after her maternal grandmother. Her godfather is Giovanni Rizzo.
Francesca and Vincenzo Oliveri obtain the civil certificate enabling them to marry on 21 November 1887, but do not do so until 1892, possibly because it takes that long to receive a dispensation. See below.
They have two known children, Giovanni (1888) and Vincenzo (c. 1890).
Giovanni is born and baptized Joannem on 13 August 1888, named after his maternal grandfather. Despite not having yet married in the Church, Giovanni's parents are clearly called a married couple in this record. His godfather is the unmarried Vincenzo Gagliano.
Rosario, named after his paternal grandfather, is born around 1890, based on his reported age at death. Rosario dies at six years of age (b. 1890) on 27 December 1896.
Vincenzo and Francesca marry in the Church on 1 March 1892. Vincenzo and Francesca are third cousins. Their matrimonial record contains a dispensation, obtained 17 February 1892, due to double fourth degree consanguinity.[1] It is the first marriage for either of them. Both Francesca's parents are still living.
