William's parents, Isaac and Catherine Riley, were original settlers in the Elgin Settlement. They had escaped from slavery in Missouri and were in Buxton when Rev King arrived there in 1849.[1]
In the 1861 census William (age 7) was the head of household in Raleigh, Kent, Canada West.[2]
In the 1871 census Willam (age 16) was in Raleigh, Kent, Ontario, Canada.[3]
In the 1880 census William (age 26) was recorded as single in Dawson, Nebraska, United States.[4]
William (age 29), son of Issac Riley & Catherine Kinney, married Charlotta B. Hatter (age 22 yrs.) on 1 July 1883 in Lexington, Dawson, Nebraska, United States.[5]
