Biography

Mary Elizabeth "Lulu Bett" Rivet, daughter of Clyde Cyril Rivet and Matrena Ivanoona Fedima, was born on 12 June 1922 in Constantinople, Turkey (later renamed Istanbul).[1][2][3] Her father was in the U.S. Navy, and moved the family to the U.S. the year after she was born. Her parents were divorced in Florida in 1927.

She was enumerated at seven years old during the 1930 census, living with her grandparents in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, while her father was stationed in Florida. The census gave her immigration status as "alien," meaning no application had been made for citizenship.[2]

Her grandfather died in 1934. She was enumerated on the 1940 census at age seventeen, living with her widowed grandmother and her Aunt Beulah in Plaquemine. The census stated she was a naturalized citizen of the U.S.[4] Her grandmother died in 1944.

Lulu Bett married Louis Porter Danos, Jr. During the 1950 census, they lived together with her Aunt Beulah and Uncle Clay in Plaquemine, where Louis worked as a buyer of hardware.[5] Louis and Lulu Bett had two children.[6]

She was widowed in 1992.[7] Lulu Bett died at her home in Plaquemine on 21 June 2007,[8][9] and was buried the next day at Grace Memorial Park.[3][10]
