Biography

Lindon Paul "Bill" Rivet, son of Henri Joachim Rivet and Odile Mollere, was born on 22 March 1901 in White Castle, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, United States. He was baptized on 8 April 1901 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in White Castle. His godparents were Savignan Landry and Amelie Medine.[1][2] He was enumerated during the 1910 census at the age of nine years, living on a farm with his parents and siblings in Assumption Parish.[3] By the time of the 1920 census, the family lived on a farm in Pointe Coupee Parish.[4] He attended school through the third grade.[5]

He married Annette Hebert, daughter of Enos P Hebert and Leah David, on 18 December 1923 in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish. Witnesses to the marriage were George Aucoin, Maud Rivet, and Henry Hebert.[6][1] They had six children.[7]

Lindon and Annette were enumerated during the 1930 census, living in a rented home in Turnerville, Iberville Parish. Along with their three young children, his sister and a boarder also lived with them. Lindon worked as a mechanic in a garage.[8] By 1940, they owned a home, valued at $1200, on the River Road in Turnerville. The census indicates he earned $1200 the previous year. During the week before the census was taken, he worked 44 hours as a lockman for a lock company.[5]

He registered for the draft on 14 February 1942 in Plaquemine, a few months before the U.S. entered World War II. He lived on Government Street in Turnerville, but gave his mailing address care of U.S. Locks in Plaquemine, where he worked. Lindon was described as being 5 feet 11 3/4 inches tall and 223 pounds, with hazel eyes, black hair, and ruddy complexion. He had a birthmark on his left shoulder.[2]

Lindon died at age 84 on 23 April 1985 in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish.[9][10] He was buried at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Plaquemine.[9]
