Julian was born 30 Dec 1850 in Peacham, Caledonia, Vermont the first son of Alfred S Rix and his first wife Chastina Walbridge.
Julian became a well-known landscape painter in San Francisco moving first to New Jersey and then New York City when the art market in San Francisco collapsed. He was placed, by the New York Times, in the company of George Inness and Homer Martin, as the future of landscape painting in America.[1]
He passed away 24 Nov 1903 at New York City[2] following an operation. He is interred at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, New Jersey.[3]
