Biography

Alexander was born on 19 December 1857 in the Pentland Hills. [b. cert] He inherted property from both Alex and Gregor, 180 acres. He was 36 a farmer of Bradshaws Creek and son of Gregor and Christina when he married Eliza Kirby, housekeeper aged 25 from Sandon, daughter of James Kirby and Eliza Hugo, on 3 October 1892, by the rites of the Ballarat United Town Mission, at 22 Hopetoun Street Ballarat. [m.cert] They lived at Bradshaws Creek, on Clover Bank which was by then mainly a dairy farm. Prize of a handsome velvet cushion, from Mrs A Robertson sen. Bradhaw’s Creek [Bacchus Marsh Express, 11 Feb 1888] Sale of 50 lambs for Mr A Robertson, Bradshaw’s Creek, [Bacchus Marsh Express, 14 March 1891] Robertson’s Road at Bradshaw’s Creek to be leased to Robertson. [Bacchus Marsh Express, 11 Nov 1905] The farm at Bradshaw was called Clover Bank. Alex died on 3 October 1911 at the farm, and was buried at Ballan. Alexander Robertson, dairy farmer of Bradshaw’s Creek died today from ptomaine poisoning. Mr Robertson who was 55 years of age, leaves a widow and young family. It is stated that Mr Robertson fell ill on Friday after partaking of some pea soup, but he was unable to attend the Ballan cattle sale on Saturday, and then appeared to be alright. However on Sunday night and Monday he became very bad and died on Tuesday morning. [The Argus, 4 October 1911] Need cemetery. Need will. Need family. Need bdm. In 1925 Eliza a widow lived at “Bradshaw” in Ballarat East. The property was sold to the Fairbairns. Sale of Estate of late Alex Robertson. Paddock at Bradshaw’s Creek, being allot. 7a of Sect 10, Parish of Moorabl West contining 5 aces at £17/10/- per acre to Mr Walter Fisk. [Ballan Times, 10 June 1915] Eliza died suddenly on 30 August 1946 at Woomelang, aged 79. [The Argus, 7 Sept 1946]
