Biography

Wells was born in 1861, in Pouley Bridge, Westmorland. Wells was baptized on 7th June 1861 at Barton in Westmorland, England, He was the son of Joseph Robinson and Mary Anne Wells[1] .

He is found on the 1871 census living at Whitelegg Cottage in Plumpton Street, Cumberland. [2] Joseph Robinson head married 39 a Game Keeper born 1832 in Wythburn, Cumberland. Mary Ann wife married 31 born 1840 in Johnby, Cumberland. Wells Robinson son aged 9 born Pouley Bridge, William son aged 7 born Pouley Bridge, John J son 5 born Asham, Jane daughter aged 3 born Greystoke, and Thomas Hesson a lodger aged 18 born in Scotland.

By 1881 Wells has moved from home and he is living in the Gardeners Cottages of Carlton Hall in Penrith. [3]John Curwen head single 30 Gardener Lancashire, Thomas Weightman single aged 20 Gardener Keswick, Cumberland and Wells Robinson single aged 19 Gardener born 1862 Pooley Bridge, Cumberland.

In 1885 Wells married Emily Sessions in Penrith, Cumberland and can be found on the Marriage index as Wells Robinson March quarter of 1885 Penrith, Cumberland. Volume 10b page 551. [4]

By 1891 Wells is living with his family at Rampsbeck Cottage, in Watermillock, Cumberland. [5] Wells Robinson head married aged 29 Head Gardener Domestic born 1862 in Barton, Westmorland. Eliza E Robinson wife married aged 28 born 1863 Oakham, Rutland. Mary A Robinson daughter single aged 4 born 1887 at Watermillock. Dorothy A Robinson aged 1 born 1890 at Watermillock. and William P Howe lodger aged 27 under gardener born 1864 in Penrith, Cumberland.

1901 sees now Wills Robinson still at Rampsbeck Cottage, Watermillock. [6] Wills Robinson head married 39 Head Gardener born 1862 Barton, Westmorland. Emily Robinson wife married 38 born 1863 Oakham. Mary A Robinson daughter single 14 Scholar born 1887 Watermillock. Dorothy A Robinson daughter single aged 11 Scholar born 1890 Watermillock. Edith M Robinson daughter single aged 9 a Scholar born 1892 Watermillock. Ernest W Robinson son single aged 4 infant born 1897 Watermillock. Herbert G Robinson son single aged 2 infant born 1899 Watermillock and Joseph Mounsley boarder aged 22 under gardener born 1879 Uldale, Cumberland. Interestingly living next door is another Robinson family. Thomas Robinson head married aged 29 Farm Manager born 1872 at Penrnddock, Cumberland. I don't know if there is a family member or not?

1911 sees Wills still living at Rampsbeck Cottage, Watermillock. [7]Wills Robinson head married 26 years aged 50 head Gardener born 1861 Barton, Westmorland. Emily Robinson wife married 7 children born, 6 still living. aged 48 born 1863 Oakham, Rutland. Ernest Wills son single aged 14 born 1897 Watermillock. Herbert George son single aged 12 born 1899 Watermillock. Ada Marjorie Robinson daughter single aged 6 born 1905 Watermillock.

By 1939 Wills Robinson is living at Gowbarrow Cottages, Gowbarrow Hall, Penrith Road, Penrith. [8] Wills Robinson male born 29th April 1861 a Widowed Gardener Retired. Living with him is his daughter Edith M Robinson (crossed out replaced by Mounsley) born 7th May 1891 single unpaid domestic duties.

Wells/Wills and Emily had the following children:- Mary Ann Robinson 1887-1963 Dorothy Annie Robinson Edith May Robinson Ernest Wills Robinson Herbert George Robinson Ada Marjorie Robinson There is also a further child that died, not found yet.

He passed away in 1947, and can be found on the Death index as Wills Robinson aged 85 born about 1862 died March quarter 1947, district Penrith, Cumberland. volume 1a page 187. [9]
