Ian was born in 1936 in Dunedin, Otago and was the son of Alfred Rodgers and Lilian Benfell.
Ian died on 24 March 1942, aged five years and five months and is buried in Anderson's Bay Cemetery in Dunedin in the same plot as his grandmother Florence White and his uncle Ernie Benfell.
