Biography

Thomas Rohrbach has German Roots.
Thomas Rohrbach was a Pennsylvanian.

Thomas, also called Kervin, son of Elmer Ellsworth Rohrbach and Alice Elizabeth Eppley, was born 27 February 1882 in Spring Garden Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1][2][3]

Thomas lived most of his life in the house at 238 South Penn in York, York County, that was owned by his parents.[1] In 1900, the household there encompassed his parents, Elmer E. (age 37, traveling salesman) and Alice E. Rohrbach (37, mother of six, five living), Kervin Thomas (18, packer), and his siblings Daisy Alverta (16), Verna May (14, student), Letitia Almeda "Lettie" (11, student) and Harry Stephen Rohrbach (9, student), as well as Alice's divorced sister Franie E. Eppley (31). [1]

Kervin T. (age 25, shoe factory worker) remained with his parents Elmer E. (47, hardware store clerk) and Alice E. (47, mother of six, five living) and siblings Lettie A. (21) and Harry S. Rohrbach (18, shoe factory worker) on South Penn in 1910.[4]

When he registered for the draft in 1918, Thomas was a 36-year-old laborer for a company in York, while he resided there at 238 South Penn.[2] At that time he was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light brown hair with no disabilities that would preclude military service.[2]

His sister Lettie A. (Rohrbach) Bupp (age 30) married William Henry Bupp (33, cigar maker), who joined the household at 238 South Penn before 1920, together with their daughter Alice Marie Bupp (6).[5] Thomas K. (37, candy factory worker) and his parents Elmer E. (56, telephone salesman) and Alice E. Rohrbach (56) rounded out the household.[5]

The Bupps established their own residence before 1930, leaving only Elmer (age 66, commercial saleman for a wholesale office), Alice E. (66, candy factory worker) and Curvin Rohrback (47, gas company collector) in the family home.[6]

His father died in 1932,[7] The 1940 census shows the Bupps living at 236 South Penn, while Kervin (age 58) and his mother Alice E. (76) lived next door, where they always did.[8] The record shows that Alice had completed three years of formal education; Thomas, five; his sister Lettie, her freshman year of high school, and her husband, eight years.[8]

Thomas died 17 October 1958 in York, York County, and was buried there at Greenmount Cemetery[9]
