C.T.C. "Don" Roper was born in Bracebridge, Ontario in1886, the 1st. son born to Edward Coleridge and Alice Helena Roper.
Growing up on the shores of Lake Couchiching, Don became adept at swimming, sailing and canoeing, as well as cricket, tennis and curling. He graduated from Orillia Collegiate at sixteen and worked in a bank for awhile.
Don preceded his family west to Bittern Lake, Alberta on Oct. 15, 1903 where he worked for his uncle, Ernest Roper, hauling goods to and from Wetaskiwin. After helping his parents and the rest of the family get settled, he built a one-roomed log cabin about half a mile from the eastern shore of Big Hay Lake on NE-28-48-22-W4.
He passed away in 1961.
