Biography
George was born in 1857. He is the son of Philo Rothrock and Ellen Burnett. George Luther (went by Luther) Rothrock was the youngest of ten children of Philo Rothrock (1821-1876) and Ellen Permelia (or Priscilla?) Burnett Rothrock (1821-1876), who married on 13 Sep 1840 at Crawford County, Indiana. After Ellen died, Philo remarried to Caroline (Carrie) Thornberry (1856-1917) on 26 Feb 1885 at Harrison County, Indiana and had an additional three sons.
Luther helped his father build a lumber mill at Depauw, Harrison County, Indiana and helped to run it for many years. Late in life (after 1920) he moved to Jefferson County, Kentucky where he was a carpenter.
Luther married first to Elizabeth (went by Lizzie) M. Brown (1861-1883) on 19 Sep 1880 at Harrison County, Indiana. Luther and Lizzie were the parents of two known children:
1. Harry Granville Rothrock (1881-1893) 2. infant child Rothrock (???-???)
After Lizzie died, Luther remarried to Ruth Sophia Brown (1863-1926), the younger sister of his first wife Lizzie. Luther and Ruth were the parents of six known children, namely:
3. Kenneth Karl Rothrock (1885-1978) 4. Charles Ray Rothrock (1888-1972) 5. Shelby Ross Rothrock (1891-1973) 6. infant son Rothrock (1895-1895) 7. Paul Allen Rothrock (1898-1970) 8. Belle Rothrock Sullivan (1900-1993)
