Polly was born about 1822. Some Barnhart family genealogy documents[1] suggest she is a daughter of David Runnels and Polly Ann Kelly, but this is unproven. See Research Notes section for more discussion.
"--Died--Mrs. Polly A. Barnhart, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Caroline King, near Quitman, Mo., on the morning of Nov. 12, '92, at the age of sixty-seven years. Her death was very unexpected, she having enjoyed good health until a few hours before she passed away. She was laid to rest in Quitman cemetery, Nov. 13. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church."[3]
Research Notes
Parents - Polly's surname is sometimes written as Reynolds, sometimes as Runnels. The Jane Runnels in the 1850 census may be a sister, and thus that spelling is used here. The Conrad Barnhart genealogy books[1] suggest Polly's parents are David Runnels and Polly Kelly. The wikitree profiles for David Reynolds and Mary "Polly" Kelley do not list a match for this Polly. Since David Reynolds and family was in Missouri by 1835, it also makes a 1840 marriage for Polly back in Tennessee not as likely. Thus, parents are still unproven.
Surname - Per the Barnhart genealogy book[1], the name is encountered with many spellings: Runnels, Runels, Reynolds, Rymal, Rimal to name a few. Interesting to note is that the mother of Felix Barnhart's 1st wife was Polly (nee Rymal) Bird. Sometimes a 2nd wife was related to the 1st wife, so perhaps our subject here was related and originally Polly Rymal.
