Biography

Elizabeth Constance was born in 1878. She was the daughter of William Russ and Jane Kerr. ^[1] She married Arthur Collin Russ in 1899 ^[2] She passed away in 1934 age 56 ^[3]

STARTLING DISCOVERY. Last night Sergeant-Major Pratt received a report from Constable Phair to the following effect : — Acting under instructions, Constable Phair, in company with Constable Knapp, visited the house and premises of William Edmund Russ, at Waimea West, and owing to certain information they received, they searched in the garden or orchard immediately adjoining the premises, and on digging at the root of an apple tree, they found the body of a male child, which apparently was fully developed. From what the constables could learn, the child was born on Christmas Day. No doctor attended the mother of the child, who is a girl aged eighteen years. She states that the child was stillborn. The body was brought to town for the purpose, if considered necessary, of a post mortem examination being held. Sergt-Major Pratt communicated with the Coroner, who ordered a post mortem examination to be made, and this task will be performed this morning by Drs Hudson and Gibbs The Colonist, Volume XXXI, Issue 8450, 9 January 1896
