She married Thomas Huddleston Wharton on 1 April 1878 at St Luke's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire.^[1] The couple had four children:

Carlisle Wharton (1881 – 1959)

Dora Wharton (1883 – )

Thomas Huddleston Wharton (1884 – 1965)

Ruby Wharton (1889 – 1890)

Her husband was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 1884. When he came out of prison they had one more child - Ruby who was born in the Isle of Man. They appear to have separated sometime after this. The children remained with Mary but judging by the marriage entry for daughter Dora in 1910, it seems Mary told her children that Thomas had died (rather than telling them they had seperated).

She remarried to Edwin Marsh in 1896 in Wrexham, Denbighshire.^[2]In the 1901 census she is living with chldren Dora, Carlilse and Thomas in 28 Holt Street, Wrexham Regis, Denbighshire.

She passed away in 1917 in Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales^[3]
