Roy Herbert Ryker was born on 12 September 1891 in Aurora, Lawrence County, Missouri to Abraham Wiley Ryker (1851-1932) and Stacey Ellen Long (1857-1930). ^{[1] [2] [3]}

Roy Herbert Ryker registered for the draft for The Great War (World War I) in Chouteau, Montana. ^[3]
Roy Herbert Ryker enlisted at the age of 26 years and 11 months on 6 August 1917 at Fort George Wright Military Reservation, Spokane County, Washington, serving in Company M, 14th Infantry. ^[4]
He served in Company F, 14th Infantry with a final military rank of Bugler 1st Class when he was discharged on 19 February 1919. ^{[4] [5]}
At his death, the American Legion applied for a military headstone for his grave. ^[6]

Roy Herbert Ryker married Roalna B. Christie (1896-1977), daughter of Thomas Christie and Mary Cameron, on 24 December 1917 in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana. ^[7]

RYKER – February, at his late residence, near Powell boulevard and Buckley avenue, Roy H. Ryker, aged 36 years, husband of Ro Ryker and father of Roy Jr., and Mary Ellen; brother of J. E. Ryker, this city; son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Ryker; brother of Mrs. F. W. Gannon and J. A. Ryker, all of Spokane, Wash. Mr. Ryker was a member of Lents lodge, No. 156, A.F. and A.M. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 17, at 1 P.M. from Pearson’s Funeral Church, 351 Knott st., under the auspices of the American Legion, Portland post No. 1. Friends invited. Interment Riverview cemetery.
